Scrub Hare

Lepus saxatilis

Size: Up to 65cm long
Habitat: Grassland
Feeding: Mostly grass but also buds and berries

The Scrub Hare is similar to a Cape Hare but larger and has completely white underparts as seen in the second photograph.

Sadly the only photographs we have of this animal were taken when it was caught by a Black-backed Jackal. It has long ears, very long legs and a brown/grey coat. It can run at speeds of up to 40 mph.

They are solitary creatures and have a lifespan of 3 years.

These photos were taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
