Tawny Eagle

Aquila rapax

Size: Up to 75 cms long
Habitat: Open, dry habitats and plains
Feeding: Carrion, mammals and birds

The Tawny Eagle has brown plummage and a wingspan of up to 190 cms. The photo on the left shows a youngster which is paler than the adult.

This particular bird was sitting in a tree watching two black-backed jackals catch and eat a hare at dusk. I think it was hoping to eat the left-overs!

This photo was taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
