Tanzanian Red-billed Hornbill

Tockus ruahae

Size: Up to 42 cms long
Habitat: Savannah
Feeding: Mainly insects but some reptiles and fruit

This species of Red-billed Hornbill is only found in the Ruaha National Park, Tanzania. It can be distinguished from other species by the black skin around its yellow eye.

It has the distinctove long, curved red beak with some black on the lower mandible. This photo shows a male who has more black on the mandible than the female. The wings are black with white speckles and the tail is black.
