Southern Ground Hornbill

Bucorvus leadbeateri

Size: Up to 129 cm long
Habitat: Forest, woodland and savanna
Feeding: Reptiles, insects and small mammals

The Southern Ground Hornbill looks rather like a turkey but with black plummage, a red face and red wattles on the throat. The female (the bird on the left of the pair) has a patch of blue in the centre of the throat wattle.

This is the largest species of Hornbill.
