Goliath Heron

Ardea goliath

Size: Up to 152 cm high, wingspan up to 230 cms
Habitat: Close to water - swamps, lakes, rivers
Feeding: Mostly fish but also frogs, mammals, lizards

The Goliath Heron is a very large wading bird with a wingspan of around 2 metres.

The head, neck and underwings are rufous colour. The wings are grey, as is the beak. The legs are black. The sexes are similar.
