Blacksmith Plover

Vanellus armatus

Size: Up to 30 cms long
Habitat: Lagoons, estuaries, grassland
Feeding: Insects, molluscs and larvae

The Blacksmith Plover, also called Blacksmith Lapwing, is a wading bird. It is fairly easy to identify with its black and white colouring all over except for its grey wings. The legs are also black and the eyes bright red.

The sexes are very similar but the females are slightly larger.
