The Defassa Waterbuck is an antelope with a rather shaggy red/brown coat.
It is the same species as the Common Waterbuck but can be distinguished by the completely white rump. The Common Waterbuck has horseshoe-shaped white ring. Only the males have horns which are tightly spiralled.
It has a lifespan of 10 - 12 years.
The top two photos, taken in Laikipia, Kenya, show the female. The bottom photo, taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya, shows the male with his spiralled horns.
