Syncerus caffer

Size: Up to 1.6m high
Habitat: Savanna and forests
Feeding: Grass and foliage

The African Buffalo, also called the Cape Buffalo, is one of the "Big Five". It is also very dangerous.

It is like a large cow with a brown/black coat. Both male and female have large curved horns, but the male can be distinguished by the fused horns which form a cap called a "boss" on top of the head.

They are gregarious animals living in large herds. They have a lifespan of 15 - 20 years.

These photos were taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
